Description

The station at Llanfair Caereinion opened in 1903, the upper terminus of the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway. Passenger services were withdrawn from the narrow gauge line in 1931 and it closed to goods traffic in 1956 but rail enthusiasts took over the railway and began running trains again in 1963. Two original locomotives survived, 'The Countess' and 'The Earl', named after the Earl and Countess of Powis, of nearby Powis Castle.
