A 4-6-2 Battle of Britain Class engine. A lightweight development of the Merchant Navy Class built from 1945 onwards; engines built for the Eastern Section of the Southern Railway network were given Battle of Britain names whilst those for use in the west of England were given 'West Country' names. Referred to as separate classes there were no design differences.
