In general, we collect information to progress your application to Historic England (in accordance with our legitimate interests).
We may also need to process your information in order to fulfil legal or regulatory requirements associated with the recruitment process, such as right to work or other immigration checks.

Our Recruitment Team and/or hiring manager will communicate with you via our recruitment platform and/or your chosen communication channel (for example, telephone or email) to:
- Provide information relating to an application and fulfil any requests made by you
- Offer suitable opportunities for employment with Historic England
- Respond to ad hoc queries

Complying with legal obligations arising out of the recruitment process
- We have a legal obligation to check that candidates are entitled to work in the United Kingdom

Assessing and monitoring equality, diversity and inclusion of our candidate pool
- We ask you to provide equal opportunities information to monitor the diversity of our candidate pool using anonymised statistics and comply with our equal opportunities monitoring obligations. You do not have to provide us with this information. However, if you choose to do so, it will not be attributed to your application when it is reviewed by our hiring team. This is to remove bias from the selection process

To fulfil our duty of care
We have a legitimate interest to collect information about unspent and exempt criminal convictions to assess your suitability for the role and to fulfil our duty of care. For some roles, it is necessary for us to carry out our obligations and exercise specific rights in relation to employment. Historic England promotes equality of opportunity for all and welcomes applications from a wide range of candidates. Suitable applicants will not be rejected because of offences that are not relevant to the role applied for. We judge each case on its own merits and do not discriminate against any applicant on the basis of criminal record information disclosed to us

We do not envisage that any decisions will be taken about you using automated means. However, if this position changes and you have a live application, we will notify you in writing.
