Workers housing, Bradfield, South Yorkshire

This terrace of houses known as Riverside Cottages, was built in the 18th century. It was altered in the mid-to-late 19th century. The houses provided accommodation for metal workers of the nearby water-powered rolling mill. The mill was destroyed by the Sheffield Flood of 1864, when a reservoir dam at the head of the Loxley Valley failed. The houses survived because they were on slightly higher ground.
