Wolvesey Castle, Winchester, Hampshire

Wolvesey Castle was the palace of the Bishops of Winchester. It was built by the bishop Henry de Blois in c1130 - 71. The castle was destroyed by the Roundheads during the Civil War (1646). A new palace was built for Bishop Morley in 1684 by Sir Christopher Wren. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010). Find out more.
