The Sunday School, Norton, Stockton on Tees
This building was originally a National School. An inscription says it was built in 1833 and restored in 1893. The National Society for Promoting the Education of the Poor supported the building of National Schools on behalf of the Anglican Church. National Schools generally had two separate schoolrooms, one for girls and one for boys. The desks were placed around the walls. Pupils were taught by monitors in groups of twelve to twenty either standing up or sitting on benches.
