The Rotunda, Birmingham, West Midlands

Begun in 1960 and completed to revised designs in 1964-5 by the architect James Roberts. It is a clean, mosaic-clad design, and it is unique in Britain to find an office building designed in such a simple form as a cylinder set on a podium. It exemplifies the move towards simpler shapes found in art and applied art in the early 1960s, but which is rarely met within English architecture.
