The Old Grammar School, St James' Street, Newport, Isle of Wight
This building was built as a Grammar School. It has the date 1614 on it. It is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Newport. Charles I lodged in the building for 10 weeks while the Treaty of Newport (1648) was being negotiated. This was a failed treaty between Parliament and King Charles I of England, intended to bring an end to the hostilities of the English Civil War.
