The Market Cross, Market Square, Alfriston, East Sussex

This is only one of two remaining market crosses in Sussex. The other is in Chichester. The base and shaft are medieval but cross itself is missing. The cornice-like stone at the top was added in 1833. In the middle ages people from the town and surrounding villages would set up stalls around the cross to sell goods.
