The Court House, Church Lane, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire
This is an Elizabethan house with a jettied timber framed first floor. It was built in the 16th century and restored in the 19th century. The Borough Court or Port Mote was held here. As a result of the Royal Charter of 1618 (James I) a Court of Records was held here. The Corporation also kept its standard weights and measures here. In 1838 the building became part of the National School. The National Society for Promoting the Education of the Poor supported the building of National Schools on behalf of the Anglican Church.
