The Almshouses, Church Street, Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire

Church Street in Stratford upon Avon, with the Almshouses, Guildhall, King Edward VI Grammar School and the tower of the Guild Chapel on the right-hand side of the street. This row of 22 almshouses was built in 1427-8. The first floor is jettied along the whole row. They are probably the oldest surviving domestic building in Stratford. A note on the reverse of the mount reads 'ph = Bedford?'. This may infer that the photographer could have been Francis Bedford, although this cannot be confirmed. A further note states that the print was created by and/ or donated by Leicester Museum and Art Gallery in 1956.
