The Abbey Retreat House, Glastonbury, Somerset

In 1825-6 the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey were bought by a John Reeves. He commissioned John Buckler, the architect and antiquarian draughtsman to design this house. It was built in 1829-30 within the Abbey grounds. It is an early example of the Tudor Gothic style of architecture. This style went on to become very popular over the next few decades, during the Victorian period.
