Suspension Bridge, Arthuret, Cumbria

This footbridge over the River Esk was put up in 1877 by Francis Morton of Liverpool, for the Graham family of Netherby. It was built to give access from Netherby Hall to the nearby Kirkandrews Church. It is a suspension bridge built from iron and steel. There are 2 tall square pylons on either bank and a support lattice of steel wires with a wooden plank walkway. A painted warning notice dated 1904 restricts the number of people using the bridge at any one time.
