Stracey Arms Windpump, New Road, Halvergate, Norfolk

This was a drainage windmill which was used to pump water out of the marsh and into the River Bure. It was built in 1883 and consists of a red brick tower and a boat shaped weatherboard cap. During the Second World War, in 1940-1, it was turned into a fortified post in case of an invasion. The mill's brick work was damaged by German aircraft and not repaired until 1961.
