St Michael's Cathedral, Coventry, West Midlands
An elevated view looking east towards the former Cathedral Church of St Michael. St Michael's church was built in the 14th century on the site of a chapel first documented in 1144. It may have been the chapel to the `Earl's Half' of Coventry. The church was restored by J. Oldrid Scott between 1883-90 and made a collegiate church in 1908. It became a cathedral in 1918 but was badly damaged by bombing in 1941. This was replaced by a new cathedral designed by Basil Spence in 1951-62.
