St Mary's Hall, Bayley Lane, Coventry, West Midlands
The exterior view of St Mary's Hall with children in front of it. The Hall was built in 1340-2 as a guildhall of the Merchant Guild. The hall is believed to have been built on the foundations of the 12th century castle of the Earl of Chester. The ancillary buildings were all altered or added to throughout the 15th century. The whole building was restored in 1824 by Stedman Whitwell and again after World War II due to bomb damage. Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned in St Mary's Hall in November 1569 under the orders of Queen Elizabeth I.
