Smiths Arms, Godmanstone, Dorset

This small, thatched, public house dates from the 18th century and was much restored in the 20th. It is one of several inns which claim to be Britain’s smallest pub. Legend tells that it was a blacksmith’s smithy until Charles II chanced by one day. He wanted a drink and so issued and granted a license on the spot.
