Ruins of Windleshaw Abbey, St Helens, Merseyside
The ruins of Windleshaw Abbey are in the Borough Cemetery and are also known as the Chapel of Saint Thomas of Canterbury. The chapel was founded as a chantry chapel by Sir Thomas Gerard c.1453. The remains are the small West tower and part of the walls. A Roman Catholic burial ground developed around the chapel and was enclosed in 1778. It became part of the Borough Cemetery in 1856.
