Row 111 House, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk
What is now houses 6-8 on Row 111 in Great Yarmouth were originally built as a wealthy merchant's house. It was built in the early 1600s and extended to the south in the late 1600s. During this time Great Yarmouth was one of the most prosperous fishing ports in England. It was then converted in to two homes (tenements) in the 19th century. In 1942 the house was damaged after it was hit directly by an incendiary bomb during the Blitz. This house is now in the care of English Heritage (2011) and is furnished as it might have looked prior to the bomb damage when three families lived there. This image shows a reconstruction currently on display on the ground floor of the property, representing a 1940s kitchen.
