Rochford Hall, Rochford, Essex
Rochford Hall is a large L shaped brick and stone house with octagonal towers. It dates from around 1540-50 but probably incorporated an earlier house. It was built on the on the site of an earlier moated manor. During the reign of King Henry VIII it belonged to Thomas Boleyn, then viscount Rochford. It is said that Henry VIII first met Anne Boleyn here. Annes sister, Mary Boleyn, lived there with her second husband, William Stafford, Lord Chebsey. The photograph shows people who may be tourists outside the house. In 2007 it was privately owned and in use as the clubhouse of Rochford Golf Club.
