Remains of Dale Abbey, Dale Abbey, Derbyshire
A hermitage founded during the 1140s became the focus of a monastic community. An Augustinian priory was founded near the hermitage sometime between 1153-8. It became a Premonstratensian monastery from 1185 until it was dissolved in 1538. Part of the kitchen was incorporated in the later Abbey House. The main surviving fragment is the great arch of the chancel east window.
