Prittlewell Priory, Prittlewell, Southend on Sea
Prittlewell Priory was founded in the 11th-12th century by the Cluniac Order. It was linked to the larger Priory of St Pancras at Lewes. It was one of the lesser monasteries housing less than 18 monks. It survived some 400 years before it was dissolved in 1536. Much of the building was destroyed. The remaining house and foundations stand in a park of about 45 acres which was presented to the town in 1917. The Refectory and Priory building were restored by the Corporation in 1920-21.
