Osterley House, Isleworth, Greater London
Osterley House was built around 1577 for Sir Thomas Gresham. It had several different owners who all made alterations. From 1683 - 1698 it belonged to a property speculator, Nicholas Barbon. In 1711 it belonged to the banker Francis Child and remained in his family for several generations. It was completely remodelled by Robert Adam in 1761-5 in a classical style. It stands in parkland between the M4 and the Great West Road (A4). Some of the landscape features are now cut off from the house by the motorway. It was given to the National Trust in 1949.
