Nottingham Playhouse, Wellington Circus, Nottingham

The Nottingham Playhouse theatre was built in 1961-3 by Peter Moro. It was the first theatre in England to break away from the conventional proscenium stage. It marks the beginning of a new and extremely successful period for the British theatre. Stylistically it is a crucial link between the Royal Festival Hall and the Royal National Theatre. It is the best example of the new and successful wave of repertory theatres built outside of London.
