Nos 53 and 54 Clovelly, Devon
This pair of cottages stands on the foreshore of the harbour. They probably date from the 18th century and were built from coursed rubble stone. They have massive blocks at ground level to protect against waves when there is a very high tide. Originally there would have been cellars for salting fish on the ground floor with 2 fisherman's cottages on the floors above. Clovelley is built on a very steep hill and was originally a fishing village. In 2009 it is a tourist attraction and people have to pay to enter the village.
