Netherthorpe Junior School, Sheffield, South Yorkshire

This junior school and adjoining house were built between 1873 and 1878 by Innocent & Brown. This school is the first school designed by Innocent & Brown for the Sheffield School Board. By 1889 Innocent & Brown had built twenty six schools and were planning four more. It is also amongst the first to be built in England after the 1870 Education Act. After the Act School Boards were set up to provide schools, paid for by household rates (taxes).
