NAAFI Club, Cambridge Junction, Portsmouth
View of services men and women in the lounge of the NAAFI Services Club in Portsmouth. The Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes was set up in 1921 by the Government. It runs recreational establishments for the Armed Forces and sells goods to servicemen and their families. Portsmouth was the first NAAFI built town club. It was opened by Princess Elizabeth, now Queen. It was the first military and naval centre to have restaurants, lounges, bars, reading and writing rooms, music and television rooms, games rooms and ballrooms.
