Memorial Tower, Garton, East Riding of Yorkshire
The Memorial Tower dates from 1865 and is dedicated to the memory of Sir Tatton Sykes. He was the 4th Baronet of Sledmere and died in 1863. It was put up by Sir Tatton Sykes, the 5th Baronet. It was funded by voluntary subscription and bears the inscription; 'ERECTED TO THE MEMORY OF / SIR TATTON SYKES BARONET / BY THOSE WHO LOVED HIM AS A FRIEND / AND HONOURED HIM AS A LANDLORD'. It was designed by J Gibbs of Oxford in a Gothic Revival style. It is 120 feet high, tapering to a spire and with 3 stages. It is made from a variety of different coloured stone with a Polychrome effect. A cottage was built opposite for a caretaker.
