Lifeboat Museum, Esplanade, Redcar, Redcar and Cleveland
The RNLI lifeboat station was originally built for the "Emma" lifeboat in 1877. In 2009 it is an established museum and houses the "Zetland" lifeboat which is the oldest surviving lifeboat in the world. The Zetland is a clinker-built, double-ended rowing boat dating from 1802. The lookout on top of the building was added in the 20th century and has been used as a coastguard station.
