Lady Banks School, Ruislip, Greater London

Lady Banks School was built in Dawlish Drive to provide education for families moving into the new Manor Homes Estate that was built between 1933 and 1939. It was designed in 1935-6 by W T Curtis and H W Burchett in a Modernist style inspired by the work of W M Dudok. It was one of the progressive schools built by Middlesex County Council in the 1930s. Lady Mary Bankes was the only daughter of Ralph Hawtry of Ruislip. She was wife to Sir John Bankes, a knight and the Lord Chief Justice of King Charles I. Lady Bankes Infant and Junior Schools still occupy this building in 2010.
