Kingstone Store, Belgrave Gate, Leicester

This store was built in 1937. It was built by Raymond McGrath for Sir Charles Keene. McGrath was an architect and interior designer who pioneered the use of glass in his designs. He designed the interiors for Broadcasting House in London. This store is one of the few surviving works by McGrath. The glass front is only the 2nd known example of 'curtain walling' in the UK. This is the use of large sheets of non-load-bearing glass on the front of the building. McGrath was also the joint author of 'Glass in Architecture and Decoration' published in 1937.
