Innisidgen Lower and Upper Burial Chambers, St Marys, Isles of Scilly
Innisidgen Lower and Upper Burial Chambers are two Bronze Age entrance graves on Innisidgen Hill. The Upper Burial Chamber, known variously as 'Innisidgen Cairn' or 'The Giant's Grave', is an oval mound of earth and rubble. Inside the mound is a well preserved stone lined chamber. The chamber is roofed by 5 capstones. It would probably have been entered through 15ft long passage that has since been destroyed. The Lover Burial Chamber is a circular mound of earth and rubble. It is generally considered to be the best preserved entrance grave on St Mary's. Inside is a stone lined central chamber. Two capstones survive and the largest is 2 metres long and 1 metre wide. The chamber formerly contained earth and rubble infill before it was cleared by an unrecorded and unauthorised excavation in 1950. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
