Infants Hospital, Udall Street, Westminster, Greater London
Babies being weighed in the reception room of the Infants Hospital, off Vincent Square. The Infants Hospital in Udall Street (formerly known as Alfred Street) was established by Robert Mond and Ralph Vincent in 1906 to treat children, train doctors and nurses and research childhood ailments and infant mortality. Mond founded the hospital in memory of his first wife, Helen, who died in 1905. It was amalgamated with the Westminster Hospital, now part of the Chelsea and Westminster hospital, in 1946. The Bedford Lemere daybook records Herbert Read & McDonald as the architects and Robert Mond as client for this photograph.
