Hall Cross Hill, Doncaster, South Yorkshire
Looking south-east along Hall Cross Hill towards the Hall Cross. Ote de Tilli's Cross, also called Hall Cross, is said to have been put up in the 12th century. This memorial cross was rebuilt in 1793, but is just a replica of the original, of which no vestige remains. Some of the terraced houses on the right have nice bow windows that stick out over the pavement. Windows like this were not seen before the Victorian period as the technology to produce large panes of glass had not been invented. They were sometimes added to older (Georgian) houses built with flat fronts and windows.
