Grimes Graves, Weeting, Norfolk

Grime's Graves in Norfolk is the site of a Neolithic-Early Bronze Age flint mine (circa 3,000-2,000 BC). At least 433 shafts were dug, and the flint nodules quarried using antler picks. The depressions are collapsed mine shafts surrounded by spoil heaps. To give an idea of scale the pale coloured patch in the top right of the photo is the car park, you can just make out the cars parked there. This site is now in the care of English Herigage (2010).
