Former Trolley Bus Turntable, Christchurch, Dorset
This former Trolley Bus Turntable is in Church Street and believed to be the only one remaining in England. It dates from 1936 and was operated. by hand. Trolley buses ran on electricity collected from a 'trolley' on top of the bus that was connected by rods to overhead electricity cables. They did not run on tracks so were more manoeuvrable than trams. They did however have a problem changing direction. They either had to have their rods moved over using a long pole or use a turntable.
