Fireplace at Eltham Palace, Greenwich, London

Eltham Palace was constructed as a medieval royal palace for Edward IV in the 1470s. In the 1930s it was extended into a large family home for the Courtaulds. The electric one-bar fire in its Art Deco surround in Stephen Courtauld's bedroom was a novelty when first fitted. This property is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
