Ferrybridge 'C' Power Station, West Yorkshire
Ferrybridge 'C' is a 2000 MW coal-fired power station which first supplied power to the National Grid in 1966. The third facility to be built on this site since 1926, Ferrybridge 'C' suffered a spectacular collapse on Monday 1st November 1965 when three out of its eight 375 ft. cooling towers were brought to the ground within the space of one hour. The failure was attributed to high wind speeds, with the close grouping of the towers a significant factor in their demise.
