Entrance to Lead Mine, Cononley, North Yorkshire

This is the entrance to a lead mine. It is called an incline plane, because it's a sloping ramp. This made it easier to get the lead in and out of the mine. It was built in c1847, probably by Stephen Eddy, for the Duke of Devonshire. It is part of a group of lead mine buildings which were built by the Duke of Devonshire's agents between 1842 and 1847.
