Eastern Barn at Church Farm, Piper's Hill, Great Gaddesden, Hertfordshire
This is a late medieval cruck framed barn. It dates from the 15th century. A cruck frame is a curved timber frame made by splitting one tree in half to make two identical pieces that can be used to form an arch. An arch like this at each end of the barn forms the basis of the rest of the timber frame. This cruck barn is one of the most south-easterly examples of this type of building in the country.
