Corbridge Roman Site, Corbridge, Northumberland
The Roman site at Corbridge was strategically placed. It is at the intersection between one of the major routes in to Scotland and a route between Tyne and the Solway. It was the site of a series of military forts. The first was begun in around 90AD. By 165AD it was becoming more of a garrison town than a fort. It flourished as a town until at least the early 400s.
