Coggeshall Abbey (Residence), Coggeshall, Essex

This house was built in the early to mid 16th century and was then altered in the early 17th century. The house incorporates part of the 12th century infirmary of Coggeshall Abbey. Coggeshall Abbey was founded in 1140 by King Stephen of England and Queen Matilda. During the 14th century, this abbey was caught up in the Peasants Revolt and was broken into and raided.
