Clegg Hall Cottages, Clegg Hall Road, Milnrow, Greater Manchester

This row of 4 cottages were originally 8 back-to-back workers cottages. They were built in the late 18th/early 19th century. The windows on the upper floor show that they were probably weavers cottages. Milnrow itself was a centre for fellmongering (stripping wool from hides). Therefore many of the workshops in the town specialized in making woollen cloth that combined both stripped and shorn wool.
