Cathedral Cloister, Palace Green, Durham

Cathedral church, originally of a Benedictine Priory. It was refounded in 1541, after the dissolution, as a secular cathedral. The south section of the cathedral cloister included the frater and the undercroft, with the kitchen beyond. The building has since been used as the library and offices for Durham University College. The undercroft dates from the 11th century. The frater was rebuilt for Dean Sudbury c.1684 and restored in 1858 by Salvin.
