Cat & Fiddle Post Mill, Dale Abbey, Derbyshire

This unusually named mill was probably built in 1788, but converted from an open-trestle into a Midlands-type mill in 1844. The floor is sunken to allow access beneath the beams. Brick buttresses were added later, and appear in this picture from 1934. It ceased working in 1952. Find out more about windmills and watermills in our Teachers' Kit - Mills.
