Beck Isle Museum, Pickering, North Yorkshire

This is a late 18th century house which is home to the Beck Isle Museum of Rural Life in 2009. The interest of this building stems from its connection with William Marshall of Sinnington. He was a prolific, highly influential and pioneering author of agricultural works. In 1801 he retired to his native Yorkshire and founded a Rural Institute or College for Agriculture. Marshall was in the process of raising a building for this purpose when he died in 1818. A large open school room was attached to the side of Marshall's house.
