Understanding Rural Heritage Assets under threat of Urbanisation in the Cambridge City Deal

Author(s): Chris Thatcher, Quinton Carroll, Sally Croft

Commissioned as one of the National Importance Programme Pilot Projects in 2014, this study focuses on the identification of nationally important but non-scheduled assets which are under threat from large-scale development. It also seeks to assess whether or not there is the potential to better understand and create mechanisms to identify them in advance. Based on a study area in south-west Cambridgeshire, the project shows that whilst available datasets could be used for predicting the nature and likelihood of encountering archaeological remains, they do not provide the evidence of significance that could trigger a process of designation.
