A collection of 12 black and white images depicting the construction of Spooner Type permanent homes in Malton, Yorkshire. The Spooner home was produced by Hull based manufacturer J L Spooner Ltd and was a timber framed, brick clad property. The Temporary Housing Act of 1944/5 was intended to alleviate the acute housing shortages of the immediate postwar years. The Ministry of Works was the government department tasked with the organisation and efficiency of the push for housing construction. A number of individual designs and constructions methods for housing were built during the 1940s, of which the Spooner method was one. Spooner also produced a temporary bungalow. It is unclear where precisely these homes were located.
The original Ministry of Works storage envelope lists operator as “D” and division as “A.D.W/A”
