The Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England published a volume in 1977 entitled 'An Inventory of the Ancient and Historical Monuments in the City of Salisbury'. The buildings of the Cathedral and the Cathedral Close were reserved for subsequent volumes, which were not published (see RCH01/178 and RCH01/181).
This set of material comprises handwritten notes with accompanying sketches and photographs, small and large format negatives, and measured drawings, that were created by the RCHME in the course of their investigations, and form an extensive resource for the study of historic buildings and monuments in the area.
