Description

After studying the northern part of Northamptonshire and publishing an inventory describing the monuments in those parishes; staff from The Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England decided to embark on two studies of the whole county, concentraing on churches and country houses. This project covered country houses, dating mainly from the 16th and 17th centuries, concentrating on their physical development and upon their role as houses, to leading members of the communities in which they were located. The project culminated in the publication 'The Country Houses of Northamptonshire' (RCHME 1996).
